• Mission Statement & Goals

    The Thorp Public Library, as a governmental body in a democracy, exists:

    • To protect the rights to, identify and meet the individual’s need for full access to information.
    • The Library will be an excellent and unbiased source of information for the people it serves.
    • The Thorp Public Library provides a lifelong learning resource, outside the formal education system, which enables each individual to acquire or to adapt the skill and knowledge necessary to: Participate in self-government,  Be productive,  Enhance humanity,  Elevate economic stature,  And contribute to enjoyment of life according to full exercise of free choice

     

    LIBRARY GOALS

    • To supply the public with resources in accordance with the Library Bill of Rights.
    • To seek to identify community needs, to provide programs of service to meet said needs, and to work with other organizations in providing services.
    • To provide a comfortable setting for patron use and appreciation of the public library as a source of pride for their community.
    • To serve as a center for local history and the preservation of local archives in all forms.
    • To support educational, civic and cultural activities of groups and organizations.
    • To serve the community and the library service area with reliable and current information in a variety of formats.
    • To assemble and preserve diverse materials that may serve to enlighten all citizens and enrich all lives.
    • To be a resource where patrons may find diverse views on controversial subjects and where one can freely examine all ideas in their search for information.
    • To continue to be a public forum for ideas and information.
    • To provide quality service to patrons, which is paramount to Thorp Public Library’s mission.

    PHYSICAL FACILITIES

     

    • To achieve the goal of good library service the Thorp Public Library Board accepts the responsibility of seeing that the building facilities will adequately meet the physical requirements of modern library service.
    • Such facilities will offer to the community an invitation to enter, read and enjoy in comfort.
